It’s called yarn bombing. Wikipedia says, “Yarn bombing, yarnbombing, yarnstorming, guerrilla knitting, urban knitting or graffiti knitting is a type of graffiti or street art that employs colorful displays of knitted or crocheted cloth rather than paint or chalk.” Wait, graffiti kinitting?
Yup. It’s not your grandma’s ugly sweater; those knitters see the colors and patterns as an act of reclaiming public spaces. And if they happen to add some life back into the dead and neglected streets along the way? So be it.
The first time I spotted one was in the summer of ‘10 in Berkeley, California.
