In some way, all art is political, even if it claims not to be. Contemporary art in particular is a reflection of who we are and what we aspire to be. It is the aesthetic expression of the ideas of an individual (or often a collective) existing within the contemporary world. The work of any artist springs from this internality and forms a sensibility about the contemporary world. We need these expressions ourselves to help make sense of our own lives. Art can do this for us.
